Merry month of May….

So…May has brought lots of fun for us here at JTE…rehearsals for Neglect, managers meetings with Margaritas, new blog opportunites, awesome grants, Matt’s Macy’s tour….and to close it out we have an unbelieveable outreach opportunity! For every show this past season we have chosen some kind of way to ‘give back’ to the community that connects with the show…and this time around we are working with So Others May Eat (SOME) which is a phenominal organization in DC that works tirelessly to help break the cycle of homelessness in so many ways! As many non-profits (like JTE) they rely a lot on the ‘kindness of strangers’ to help move their mission forward through donations and volunteers. So we have set up two dates in order to do just that. The first of which is coming up very quickly on May 31st and is going be a morning of going to someone’s home and in some small way performing our very own Extreme Makeover….okay we won’t have Ty Pennington there but I am more than happy to grab a megaphone and pull down some walls…. Oh no wait…okay I am being reminded that although we will be helping someone with housework there won’t be any cranes or bulldozers. But I can say there will be donuts and some remodeling going on for some lucky person. Don’t you want to come? The fun is (just like the Extreme Makeover team) we won’t know what we’ll be doing until right before — anything from raking the yard, to helping sort through a garage to cleaning a kitchen….who knows but the end result is the same…someone is going to have a cleaner something because of us. And we are still in need of a few volunteers for this…..please let me know if you wanna tag along! We’ll start around 9 or 10am and go until mid-day.

The second event comes towards the end of the run…..June 21… we will be making grocery deliveries… Kinda like Oprah’s Big Give but with groceries instead of money and no one gets kicked off and really we all win in the end…so okay it’s nothing like it but we could pretend. (That’s why we’re in the theatre business :) ) . And we need people to help out for that one too! And you’ll get treats too!

Sounds like fun right? You wanna help right? Then email me, your friendly Outreach Co-ordinator, Becky at becky@journeymentheater.org and let me know. Or if you can’t do these but you want to join in next seasons volunteer work you can email and tell me that too! We have some pretty amazing events coming up for season 5 on Journeymen Island….hope you will tune in.

As for me I will lay off the reality tv kick and return to real life. Why is it so fascinating to watch other people do normal things or try and beat each other out by who eats the most disgusting things….that’s what I will be pondering…your thoughts? Feel free to share.

Welcome to the JTE blog and I hope to see you soon!

Becky

And … we’re off!

So, we begin the blog!  I am daunted by the amount of folks who have been doing this for much longer and with great success but hopefully the JTE blog will be a place where folks can look in a bit further into the inner workings of the theater company and will hopefully be entertained, informed, inspired and, well, entertained.  Let’s just call it our own small version of one of my most favorite TV shows I think ever produced “Slings & Arrows” (and if you haven’t watched these 3 seasons you need to rush right out and rent them!).

So, we are in rehearsals for NEGLECT which opens on May 28 and I couldn’t be more excited about this little gem of a play.  I have never before wept during a first read-thru of a play.  Well, for those of you who know me well - that might be a big fat lie.  But anyhoo - the read-thru just confirmed what I felt about the play just reading it.  And the actors couldn’t be more perfectly cast!  Now we just need to sell seats so lots of folks can see it.  And with it coming in around 70 minutes with no intermission - that might make it even easier to sell.  But, oh my goodness, it’s gonna be good!

I will try to get a digital picture tonight at rehearsal so you can at least see a photo of JJ Johnson and Cynthia Rollins (and I will try to sneak in a picture of Jessie Gallogly who is directing!).

So, that’s it for me and my first entry onto the JTE blog. Hope to see you soon (especially if you have read this so I can thank you personally!)
